After weeks of productive break and various real life matters, I present some pictures from the recent Metro ComiCon at the SM Megamall Convention Center.

This is my first time attending a big local event and I could say that I quite had fun.

The Comicon.. of course is more about comics, but what I can see is that most of the cosplays and stuff are anime related. There were of course real comics and locally produced ones…

I’m not really fond of comics but I convinced myself to go. Not to mention I live close by and my friends are waiting.

The event wasn’t really that… good.. but it’s easy to have fun in it. Most I did was take pictures, look at the art works and loiter.

I also tried using the Wacom Cintiq on display.. it was pretty cash…

Project Diva PC Download

I mentioned in my earlier post about playing Project Diva PC fan-port based from Hatsune Miku Project Diva from the PSP, so I guess this might be a good time to introduce it.

This here is Project Z-1 a rhythm game heavily based from the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva for the PSP by Sega, it is made by the Chinese game programmer group called GameMaster, the most they did is hack off the important files like wav sounds, sprites, images, etc. from the UMD of the original game and built the base GUI of the game from it. That’s text book definition of China Quality for you!

The game works as if it was the real PSP game; you play by pressing buttons as the flying shapes approach the corresponding symbol while the Miku music on the background is playing, It’s a rhythm game after all… The main difference is that the PSP version has real time 3D rendering of Hatsune Miku and the other Vocaloids. With 3D rendering, you can change costumes, accessories and the likes. While on the Fan Port, the visuals on the background while playing are just recorded or downloaded Miku Videos from NicoNicoDouga, it makes sense since it would really be difficult to port every detail of the 3D aspect of the real game, recorded videos would do the trick but the main disadvantage is that you wouldn’t be able to edit in real time, not to mention change costumes and accessories.

You can readily add, edit, delete the songs and visuals of the game; even to edit the timing of the button sequences is possible. The Project Z-1 also comes with the “Map Editor” so that you can build or edit the symbol timings for a certain song or music, and it’s also Open Source!

Since basically you can add almost any song you like, the fan port seems to have every song from the original game and also some unofficial music out of the game. I even replaced some of the videos in there because it was really Low Quality (too blurry and pixilated).

The game is quite fun and dead-on based on the gameplay, if you don’t have a PSP and you’ve been dying to play Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, you can practice or even let this be an alternative for the time being. Some songs have almost the same button sequences from the original game, so when you switch to the real deal, you would already be familiar with what buttons to smash.

Here are some screenshots, there isn’t much anything to see other than the gameplay, the menu are just a few levels deep and are quite direct. In the menu, the only thing that seems to work is the Play and CGPics. The Play menu basically directs you to the song list and after that you can play your choice, the CGPics menu is basically just a straight forward CG viewer… To think of it, it’s almost even unecessary to have a CG menu… And the way I see it, I think most of the pictures came from Pixiv and Piapro.

As we see here, there’s a Story Mode and Network Mode, they say both are in development currently.

The games have some bugs here and there but I managed to find some simple workarounds for it, so it’s no problem. Also, it’s best to play the game in Chinese Language Locale so that some fonts would load up correctly; this game was developed by the Chinese after all…

So I was playing the Project Diva PC fan-port, then I was trying to look for a warm-up song that has routine button cycles and challenging enough, then I saw a quite interesting title on the list, ‘Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!‘ I checked it out and it had a very catchy song that repeats in cycles, just perfect for my warm-up or practice on the buttons.

Then I just realized that I’ve been playing the same song and when I have a break I have it looped in my mind, it seems that I got addicted to the tune. So probably because of that I looked for more info about it. The music is by daniwellP, he used Vocaloid Miku for the Nya effects; also, his got a ton of videos already at Nico Nico Douga, but this one seems to be the most catchy he made.

Here’s a figure rendition of Tony Taka’s popular Hatsune Miku illustration from the “Tony’s Heroine Works” compilation. This figure is a 1/7 scale PVC build by Max Factory with all details from the original illustrations intact such as the detailed transparent coloring and the delicious armpits. The Figure is expected to be available in stock this January

The pose shows a good deal of movement and a feeling of liveliness, not to mention how faithful the rendition is to the illustration and how extreme the pose is, the quality is just perfect and the figure is well crafted.

Have you ever wanted to make those videos you see on Youtube and NicoNicoDouga about dancing 3D Vocaloids, Touhou, Utau, Idolm@sters and many more? I introduce to you MikuMikuDance, it is a software that enables you to import 3D model files in PMD format and lets you control movements and and camera sequences easy and simple. You can also lip-sync the characters to any song that you use for your video manually or by using the VSQ file from the Vocaloid software.

For those who would like to test out this great software, you need to download the software first. Links are provided on the end of the article.

Using the software is easy, but of course at first everything looks very confusing, but after an hour or more of fiddling with the program, you would be able to familiarize all the tools in the program.

My first test of MikuMikuDance with Hakurei Reimu model and static JPEG Background. No dynamic camera angles, no lighting effects, just plain model and motion test for future productions. The background of the video is only a picture I took from my desk, I just estimated the angle for the 3d video.

It seems that it’s not that hard to use MikuMikuDance, the only problem is that it takes a lot of time to do a single pose for every second. But thanks to tweening, most of the frames have calculated measurements of the position of the pose. So for example you raise the arm up from frame 1, and you raise down the arm in frame 10, what would happen is that the program would calculate a movement between frame 1 to 10 so that you would not manually set every pose on every frame.

One of my first few issues with this is that there are no other codecs and compressors installed for saving the Video, when I first saved the AVI file, the two minutes of the video is worth 768 megabytes! So I had to compress it first before uploading to Youtube since my upload speed is slow. Before that, I had to mux the mp3 file with Virtual Dub so that it would have music.

But anyway, just watch the test video below and enjoy…

Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai’s OP is here edited skillfully to make a wonderful Vocaloid MAD. The music video features all the  vocaloid characters, including new comer Megurine Luka.

The video shows skillfull editing and animation skills, though most are traced it still is a difficult task to do.

CLAMP, noted for one of the best manga series such as Chobits and of course Card Captor Sakura, illustrates Hatsune Miku in this splendid PV with the song Mugen no Yami (Infinite Darkness) as the BGM.

The video seems to be a reminder of the art style and character designs of the famed group. The show indeed features Hatsune Miku in striking Gothic diva fashion.

The MAD may only consist of still images, but there is no doubt that it is indeed a marvelous work.
