Here’s another blue-haired heroin that looks like my Nagi and Index (probably a hybrid). Shinryaku! Ika Musume, the title given to the comedy anime about a girl called Ika Musume (Squid Girl) who vows to avenge the seas and invade dry land for the humans who pollutes the ocean where she dwells in.

The resemblance is uncanny…

What good is a squidvader who can’t even catch a mosquito properly…

The plot revolves around Ika Musume who ended up staying as a part-timer at the Lemon Beach House to pay for the damages she caused while demonstrating her powers and abilities as a squidvader. The show doesn’t focus much on a single story line but instead portrays the daily lives of the characters around Ika Musume and their antics. The series seems to be in chronological order but they are indirectly in continuation with the adjacent episodes.

Ika Musume, A daughter of the sea who is in the form of a human girl with a squid like hat and has ten tentacles as her blue colored hair. She wears a one piece dress/skirt (whatever that is), two rounded bracelets for each arm and a pair of funny looking boots. I have to wonder how she came up with this costume…

Being a squidvader, she has inhuman capabilities such as having powerful tentacles which can grasp objects at great distances at blistering speed and can also crush it in an instant. She can also glow in the dark like deep sea squids and she can squirt ink which is disgusting but edible.

By working at your store, I shall squidvade you all degeso!

Although she has quite the capabilities, she still fails to subject the humans because she lacks common-sense and general knowledge which normal beings have. Also, she is afraid of Chizuru which she can’t seem to defeat.

Eiko Aizawa, the manager of Lemon Beach House. She seems to be the keeper of Ika Musume, she is frequently annoyed by Ika’s antics and becomes and result to violence at times.

Chizuru Aizawa, the older sister of Eiko who’s rather kind looking and mature, despite her looks she is much scarier than Eiko who seems to posses super ninja skills whenever pissed off…

Takeru Aizawa, the younger brother of the sisters. He is often seen to have fun and likes to play around with Ika and often misinterprets her threats as child’s play.

Sanae Nagatsuki, Eiko’s best friend who has a complex on Ika. She usually stalks Ika and takes pictures. She also has a masochistic character whenever Ika Musume reacts violently on her advances.

Nagisa Saito, a part-timer at Lemon Beach House and a surfer. She looks to be the most normal on all the characters, but has a far-fetched but reasonable fear against Ika Musume. She has a crush on Goro the lifesaver after she was saved from being drowned on one episode.

Goro Arashiyama, the local lifesaver and childhood friend of the Aizawa’s. He has a crush on Chizuru and is quick to give-in to her wishes or anything related to her.

Ayumi Tokita, the hot chick who is the daughter of the rival beach house. She is a shy-type and prefers to work wearing a costume.

Cindy Campbell, an obsessed UFO researcher who repeatedly targets Ika Musume and insists that Ika is an Extraterrestrial Alien.

Harris, Clark and Martin are the three stooges of the show. They are like Cindy who is an obsessed UFO researcher. With their expertise they can make cure for cancers and various helpful-to-man-kind devices, but despite that they can create such things, they will only be satisfied if only they could find a real Alien.

The anime has 12 episodes to date. There is still no news if it will have a second season on the way.
