I’ve just watched K-ON! And I was like “Sugoi!!!”, yes I was impressed by the animation, the character designs and the dubbing. It seems that I will really follow this anime till the end, just like Toradora! and Kannagi.
K-on’s character designs seems to remind me a lot of Kannagi, if you look closely at the mouths of the characters, it is quite similar to Kannagi’s.
Warning, Spoilers below,
Anyway, this anime seems to remind me of other shows, such as MoHS, Kannagi, Toradora! and Kamichu!
Yui Harasawa, the clumsy girl (which would be playing the guitars), is the most I’m fond of, now she’s one my favorite anime characters aside from Yuki Nagato and Nagi. Yui really looks cute and she is quite moe, She reminds me of Yurie Hitotsubashi from Kamichu! They’re both clumsy and out of tempo, come to think of it, their names are both YH in initials…
Mio Akiyama, the pretty black haired girl and the bassist. Her looks is quite my type, but her personality for me is uh.. too generic? (zomg! sorry Mio fans! XP), she also reminds me of Setsuna and Motoko from Ken Akamatsu’s works…

Ritsu Tainaka, I would have liked her more if not for that hair style… She’s the “self-proclaimed” president of the club (since all the other members graduated and nobody’s left) and she’s also the drummer. She needed to find 3 other members for the club not to be suspended, so thanks to her efforts, we have K-on!

Ritsu is quite Haruhi-ish and Konata-ish, I just love her expressions XD

Tsumugi Kotobuki, well, from my first impression, she’s quite rich, is she? She plays piano in the club. In one scene, where it was her first time to eat fast food, they were talking about incetives/gifts for new members, then she asked if what gifts would do and so suggested “cars and mansions” (I got that from subs, so I’m quite not sure about it), wut?

Nodoka Manabe, Yui’s childhood friend. At first, I thought she was a boy (more like a shota), but after that one scene, I was like “uh… wut?” It made sense, it really is an all girls school, sigh… The scene below…

About the club, K-On! which sounds like Keion, which is the short word for keiongaku, meaning Light Music. Keion-bu is a bukatsu (club) for students who wants to learn or has interests in Music. In the anime, Keionbu was in danger of being suspended for not having enough members because they’ve all graduated. But as I’ve said, Thanks to Ritsu, the club is saved!
Bukatsu… I was in the art club back then, I feel a little bit sad for not enjoying much of my High School life, now I regret it a little… What was I doing back then!? Oh well…

About the dub, I acknowledge Ritsu’s Seiyuu, I really liked the voice and dubbing, the expressions were very good and fun to hear. And also Yui’s dubber, one of the reasons that’s why I like the character, is because of how she was voiced and the expressions, it was really cute!
All in all, I really love it, and I can’t wait for more!
Thanks CoalGuys for the sub!
I ‘liek’ how MAD already made numerous videos from the first episode.
Wow, seriously. Popularity bomb.
I’ll keep this in my favorite list for the sake of it.
Oh Yes you should! :3
If this keeps up, I “should” call you Ichiro-sama. Neh? D:
“K-on’s character designs seems to remind me a lot of Kannagi, if you look closely at the mouths of the characters, it is quite similar to Kannagi’s.”
Glad i wasn’t the only one who noticed that :3 Amazing on how Mugi’s able to carry her keyboard just like holding a regular school bag.
The reason they remind you of one another is that they’re all made by the same animation company, Kyoto Animation. They produced Haruhi, Kannagi and now K-ON, as well as a bunch of other shows I can’t remember.
But yeah. That’s probably why Kannagi and K-ON have similar character designs. If you look at the original mangas for each of them, the designs are less similar.
Personally I think this style is super cute and I hope they make lots more shows that look like Kannagi!~
I think not
Kannagi belongs from another animation studio, A-1 Pictures in particular. While as you siad, K-On! and haruhi are from KyoAni which is correct.
I just think that those kind of character style is just the common trend today, you can see that our anime has been evolving ever since, and you can see that evidently…
oh you…
Ahaha. I’m kidding, of course.
although, the possibility exists.
Anyways, Delicious Mio is Delicious.
